Experience the Difference this Holiday Season: 5 Benefits of Our Private Surgical Practice

The holidays are a busy time of year, and that holds true for many medical practices, as everyone scrambles to get in annual and sick visits before their insurance deductible kicks in with the new year.

Even surgical practices see an uptick in patients trying to get in around the holiday season, and, for many patients, it can mean long waits to get an appointment and overworked staff who don’t have the time to answer all your questions or deal with your every concern.

At Advanced Surgical Associates of Northern Minnesota, board-certified general surgeon Dr. John Bollins and our team don’t agree with that model of medical practice, which is why we formed a patient-centered private surgical practice. To learn more about what we do, here are five key benefits of our model.

What is private practice?

Private practice can refer to either an individual physician working independently or a small group of physicians who collaborate but aren’t affiliated with any insurance company, HMO, hospital, or corporate entity.

Advanced Surgical Associates of Northern Minnesota is a private practice formed by John Bollins, DO and his team in 2021 to better meet their patients’ needs. In this model, all the doctors contribute to the work, divide the income, and support each other with consultations and advice based on their experience.

And because they’re not beholden to any corporate entity, they have the final say in the treatment of their patients’ medical needs.

5 benefits of a private surgical practice

There are many benefits to seeing a doctor in a private practice. Here are the top five.

The first is that doctors have the time to fully invest in their patients. They can give the patients the time they need at each appointment to ask all of their questions and get much-needed answers. If the patients need follow-up, the doctors can handle that, too, in a timely fashion.

The second is that patients can get an appointment within a reasonable time frame. There’s no need to wait weeks to months to get the first available appointment. The doctors limit the number of patients they handle so they have time to spend with the patients they already have.

The third is that patients don’t spend the day in the waiting room. Because the doctors are more available, patients can be seen within a short time of their appointment and still expect to receive all the care they need while they’re in the office.

The fourth is that, because the practice isn’t affiliated with any company, the doctors aren’t pressured to send patients to a particular surgery center or hospital. They can choose which facility best meets their patients’ needs.

The fifth, and in some ways the most important, is that, in this type of practice, patients are individuals with names, not just numbers on a registration form. This allows the doctors to get to know them better personally and medically. They are therefore able to offer more tailored medical care.
