About us and our practice
The Upper Mississippi Surgical is a broad spectrum hospital-based surgical practice.
Dr George Fortier is a board-certified general surgeon, certified in laparoscopic gastric
banding (Lap-Band). Procedures performed include open and laparoscopic abdominal
surgeries, advanced laparoscopic procedures (Lap Band, Nissen Fundoplication), vascular,
thoracic, gynecology, endocrine, trauma and C-Sections. The hospitals served include
Albany, Long Prairie, Melrose and Morris.
Mission Statement
The goal of Upper Mississippi Surgical is to provide high quality surgical services in a
compassionate manner to the people of rural Minnesota. We are committed to providing
the most up-to-date, innovative, and effective surgical techniques available. Continuing
Medical Education is a high priority. Education of patients is of utmost importance and
allows patients to actively participate in their care.
The goal of the Laproscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding Program is to provide a comprehensive
weight management system. Extensive pre-op and post-op education of patients is incorporated
through a multidisciplinary approach so patients can have the best possible outcome resulting
in a better quality of life and better health. Long term post-op follow-up is emphasized to allow
for the best long term results.
